This Land
Katherine was born and raised on the traditional terrritories of the Stó:lō, Coast Salish, Stz’uminus and šxʷməθkʷəy̓əmaɁɬ təməxʷ (Musqueam) peoples. Colin was born and raised on the traditional territories of the Beaver, Dënéndeh, and Michif Piyii (Métis) peoples. Together we currently occupy and harvest on traditional, ancestral, and unceded Secwepemcúĺecw and Syilx tmixw territory. We came to settle in this area because we were drawn to the beauty of the valley, the access to water and the distinct changes of the seasons. The ancestors of the Secwepemcúĺecw and Syilx people have cared for and nurtured this land for time immemorial, for which we are incredibly grateful. We give thanks and appreciation to these land stewards. Out of respect to the current and the ancestral peoples of the Secwepemcúĺecw and Syilx people, we strive to work in symbiosis with the land, soil, animals, water, and people around us. We acknowledge as white settlers on this land our work to learn, listen and educate about indigenous rights, histories, language, land stewardship and culture will never be done. We are dedicated to honouring the lives, experiences, and beliefs of indigenous people.
